Who Is Anthony Lapaglia
Anthony Lapaglia, 52, is best known for his role in the TV series Without a Trace. In the series, Anthony acted as an FBI agent specializing in cases of missing children. He was a supervisory agent who headed the Missing Persons Unit.Without a Trace went on air from 2002 to 2009 for seven seasons.
Lapaglia was born in Adelaide, Australia on January 31, 1959. He had both Italian and Dutch origins from his father and mother, respectively. Before he transferred to Los Angeles at age 25, Anthony enjoyed his life in Adelaide. In his late teens, he began to venture into dramatic art by enrolling in an acting course at the South Australian Castings Agency. He left for California after finishing a year and a half of acting course.
Lapaglia went to the United States to have a full-time teaching career. However, a twist of fate landed him an acting part.He first appeared in an episode of the television series Stephen Spielberg’s Amazing Stories in 1985.He then became part of the Cold Steel in 1987 which was followed by a telemovie Nitti: The Enforcer.
It was in 1990 when the young actor earned critical recognition for his role as an exceedingly polite mobster in Betsy’s Wedding. He became part of the 12 Promising New Actors in John Willis’s Screen World Vol. 4 in 1991. Lapaglia also became part of A View from the Bridge, a Broadway production in 1997 and 1998. His lead role, Eddie Carbone, gave him a Tony Award for Best Actor. The role of Tony Soprano in the HBO series The Sopranos was first offered to Anthony in 1999.He had to turn the role down because of his Broadway role and several other factors.
Lapaglia was also fond of playing football, aside from his interest in acting. He was Adelaide City and West Adelaide’s goalkeeper in the 1980 National Soccer League.Lapaglia underwent a hip replacement in the summer of 2004 following his days playing football. His operation was successful and he was back playing football with Hollywood United. The award-winning actor needed to undergo another hip replacement surgery in 2010.He took a long break from the soccer field to give his new hip ample time to heal. Lapaglia wanted his hips to be free from complications that may put him at risk for a hip replacement recall, so he opted not to expose it to extreme forces.
On September 12, 1998, he got married to Gia Carides, who bore him a child. He was given role in two separate shows, Django Unchained and A View from the Bridge which are both on the pre-production stage. Also, he is currently filming a movie for 2012 entitled Long Time Gone.
