Leica D-Lux 5 Premium Compact Digital Camera
Mention the name 'Leica' and you'll hear plenty of talk about 'paying for the red dot'. The brand certainly has a reputation for exclusivity. But, leaving the price issue to one side for a moment, it's clear that the Leica D-Lux 5 has plenty to offer the discerning photographer.
Leica DLux 5 Review
Its design, for instance, is a fabulous example of retro-modern engineering. Admittedly, there are much smaller, lighter compacts available, but few look quite like this. The D-Lux 5's distinctive shell brings to mind classic Leica models from times past, without getting too hung up on trying to look like an antique replica. the DLux 5 offers a faster LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON 5.1 - 19.2mm f/2 - 3.3 ASPH. lens with an extended range of focal lengths equivalent to 24 to 90mm in 35mm format. Together with its comprehensive range of features and manual settings, the versatile LEICA D-LUX 5 offers a broader spectrum of photographic options – from macro and wide-angle architecture and landscape photography to reportage and portrait photography.
The Leica D-Lux 5 and Panasonic LX5 are basically identical cameras manufactured by Panasonic in Japan. The Leica version has a more clean design (no grip and labels). The rest of the differences are: LX5 comes with Silkpix Studio (retails for $100), has one year warranty and costs $400. The D-Lux 5 comes with Adobe Lightroom (retails for around $260, currently there is a $100 rebate), has 2 years warranty, costs $800 and usually has better resale value. In addition to those differences, both cameras have different firmware. The menu is almost identical with some small exceptions, mainly the way some features are called and where they are positioned One advantage the Leica D-Lux 5 has over the Lumix is that it comes with a full version of Adobe LightRoom 3. This image-processing software is better at handling image data and RAW photo conversion compared with SilkyPix, which the Panasonic LX5 ships with.
I was very impressed with the D-Lux 5's overall performance and felt its image quality, exceeded my expectations. For someone who is just learning street photography and doesn't want to spend over a grand to learn, this camera is a reasonable option although I highly recommend an optical viewfinder so you can shoot at eye level. Also consider the Panasonic Lumix LX5 if you wish to save nearly $400! Just find the best deal on this stylish and elegant digital camera.
Any instructional movies about Digital Photography?
I'm looking for a movie/documentary that shows the ins and outs of photography, shooting with studio light, portraits, even fashion etc.
I'm NOT looking for movies ABOUT a photographer; I'm looking for instructional videos about the actual art.
