Blk Wht Photography

can someone please tell me the shortest route to take in photo shop to color one item in a photo and make the?

remainder of the photography blk and wht. I've never been able to do this before and every time i use the little wrangler thingy to rope something off..i don't know how to stop it or get to the next step. please give me steps from the beginning in the simplest form possible without anything that will confuse my little mind... thanks so much.

It depends on what sort of color you are wanting to do. What I do is this, I black and white the pick, then use the rope tool to cut out the item I want to color. I copy and then open a new image with a transparent background. Paste the cut out portion to it. I then colorize the piece. Save it, then copy it and paste it back to the original. move it into place and then merge all the visible layers. This isn't hard, but just is a lot of steps.
The other option is to open two windows of the same image. Colorize one, black and white the other. Copy and paste the black and white one as a new layer on the colorized image. Use the eraser tool to erase the b/w item and the colorized one will show through. This one is easier to explain, but for me it is harder to make it look right.
Good Luck.
