Photography Lighting Equipment?
I have been told that Alien Bees (http://www.paulcbuff.com/alienbees.php) are a good brand of lights to start out with, but I'm not sure. I will be graduating college in about 7 months and i would like to get me own equipment. 1 light is okay, 2 are good, 3 would be great, 4 and more would be absolutely magnificent. I don't want to spend more than $800. Please help!
I disagree somewhat with Marcie. Yes, Alien Bees are excellent lights, but for what they are, they are not expensive. They are a great value for price, which is one reason they are so popular. They are quality lights or would not have the fine reputation they do. You can spend a LOT more money on lights that really offer nothing more.
Alien Bees are expensive compared to the total GLUT of JUNK lighting out there on the market, especially on Ebay. But if you buy these low priced lights, you will soon regret it and just be spending money again on something better.
I will state one other source of lights that are very good quality and typically at a lower price point than Alien Bees. The FLASHPOINT series of lights sold through Adorama are very good value. (I have four of them by the way, have had them for many years, and never had the slightest problem). So you may want to check out the Flashpoint lights also.
